Chapter 25

Tonikia was still in the bed while Troto had been up doing what he did. He was in the kitchen fixing scrambled eggs with cheese, turkey bacon, and toast. That was the only thing that he knew how to cook. She smelled the food coming from the kitchen and thought about the evening last night with Knook and Dinah at Neville’s steak joint. Troto told her after making love to her three times last night that he and Knook were about to get on some major shit in the hood. This made Tonikia think about Mario. It was bold of him in the first place to invade Cuney Homes’ turf like he had, having some send-off niggas come through and blast up the place. The niggas weren’t really banging like that no more in Cuney Homes, but they sure as hell were going to wonder why they weren't eating as good lately.

Troto walked in the bedroom and saw that she was wide awake. He was smiling from ear to ear as he knew he had put it down last night with that Remy Martin and X running through his system.

“Fire up one, shawty. The food is ready.” Troto said, needing to puff on something before he ate.

“So I see work ain't the only thing you cook,” Tonikia replied, smiling and enjoying the aroma from the turkey bacon.

“Damn, shawty, a nigga might not be a high school graduate, but I sure paid attention in my seventh grade home economics class. My mother always said the way to a man's heart was through his stomach. I had never planned on giving my heart so I learned to cook a lil something,” Troto said, looking for the grape wrap to get it ready to smoke.

“That is some deep shit. So if you never planned on giving your heart is this just a temporary fix for you?” Tonikia asked.

“Naw, baby, you changed my whole plan up. I always had a thing for you. I just didn't know it was this love thing, but I'm feeling you hard, shawty. You been my ride-or-die all this time, girl, right here in my face.”

“This thing you were talking about last night with Knook, about something big going down. You aren't going to get out here, let making paper change you, and start philandering around with these hoes once your weight is up, are you?”

“Phil what, baby? I ain't never philander or whatever that word was. Shawty, money needs a boss; it can't be my boss. Where I'm from, money don't make a nigga; a nigga make that paper,” Troto replied. “Besides you got that good, good; got a nigga sprung and shit. Nigga up all early and everythang, making toast, bacon, and eggs with shredded cheese.” He smiled and kissed her on the lips as she finished licking the blunt together. “I think we’d better go get at that shit before it gets cold,” Troto said.

Tonikia sat at the table and Troto found the plates in the cabinet.
